Hey y'all! It's been busy around the Miller Maison with work, friend time, family visits, summer fun, etc. I'm taking a quick time-out to bring you a few Wednesday loves.

{memories}

Last week I was working in Tuscaloosa- a place near and dear to my heart as many of you know. I got to visit a few of my favorite restaurants- Hooligan's (aka Shenanigan's), City Cafe, etc. Things move at a slower pace during the summer in Tuscaloosa, and it was nice to stroll around campus without so many students and the craziness of football season. I have so many wonderful memories associated with that town and that University, and I love that work takes me there occasionally. I'm loving that during my time there, I also got to catch up with my dear friend Ashley. We had dinner at Chuck's (another favorite) and attended a beer tasting at Carpe Vino. And to top it off, I received an adorable picture frame as a very thoughtful belated birthday prezzie!

{date night}

I'm loving that last week we also got to have an adult date night with Candace and Jonathan. We headed over to Mafiaoza's (delicious pizza) to meet up with some other friends, drink some local brew, and listen to Andy play. Such a fun evening!

{summer color}

I'm loving that summer makes it okay to wear bright colors. I've been trying to mix in some fun colors to my professional attire. A little pop of color just brightens my day!

{backyard paradise}

I'm loving that not only did my mom come visit this past weekend, but we also got to spend some time in the Strickland's backyard paradise. The sunshine and company were great, but I especially loved getting to see these kiddos!

{eye candy}

I'm loving that Mr. M and I finally got to see "21 Jump Street"! I love anything with Channing Tatum, but this movie was even more hilarious than I expected. I considered it a little Channing appetizer in preparation for the premiere of "Magic Mike" this coming weekend!

I'm loving my new FREE picture magnet. I order prints from Shutterfly, and they constantly send me great deals. This was the latest Shutterfly deal, and it's perfect for posting summer wedding invitations!

tuesday tidbits

Hello blogosphere! Another work trip for yours truly- Dallas this week. Hope you all had a nice weekend and survived your respective Mondays. My intentions were to get back on track with my posting this week, since I've fallen out of my blog "schedule" recently. Clearly, I totally missed the boat yesterday... but today I'm back with a few random tidbits!

{one}

Last Thursday evening we bid farewell to some sweet friends. We were honored that they chose to spend their last night in Birmingham with us, and as always, we thoroughly enjoyed our outing with them. We had dinner and drinks at Moe's in Lakeview and then followed up dinner with dessert at Edgewood Creamery. Calley and Brian are such special people, and while we will miss them terribly during Brian's year-long dental residency, we wish them all the luck and happiness in South Carolina!

Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers, and I've wanted some in my yard for quite some time. Lucky me- my mom granted this wish as part of my birthday present this year. So this weekend, Mr. M and I spent some time in the backyard and planted 6 hydrangeas along one portion of the backside of our house. I'm not exactly known for my green thumb, but I can't wait to see how they turn out. If anything goes wrong, I'm totally blaming the torrential downpours that have spanned Alabama over the past few days.

I love when Mr. M and I get to spend a whole day just the two of us. This past Saturday was one of those days, and we enjoyed every second of it. In addition to lunch and dinner out, we also caught a matinee- Snow White & the Huntsman. Surprisingly, we BOTH enjoyed it very much. Although, I have to admit that I was disappointed that: A) There was only one shirtless Huntsman scene, and B) Aside from one chaste little kiss, there was no hot and steamy Hemsworth make-out scene. Before calling it a day, Mr. M and I swung by Cajun Cleaver to browse the brew selection. You can actually purchase draft beer there to-go, so we went home with one of our favorite- Blue Pants.

We celebrated Clint's Granddaddy's 84th birthday this past Sunday. As a special treat since we were home, Clint's Granny decided to change the menu to a fish fry. There's nothing like a home fish fry at Clint's grandparents' house, and she knows how much we love it. We had fried fish filets with all the trimmings (baked beans, coleslaw, etc). And if that wasn't delicious enough, Granny also made one of my favorite dishes- broccoli bread!


And of course people- there was cake! As a fish farmer and fisherman, this was perfect for Granddaddy!

So what if I ate cake twice in the span of a few hours? Yeah, that's right- we had not one, but TWO parties to attend on Sunday. After Clint's Granddaddy's birthday lunch, we headed to an afternoon party to celebrate Thomas's first birthday! Thomas's mom went all out on the farmer decorations and the party was precious!

We kicked off the weekend Thursday evening by attending the Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean concert. Thanks to my sweet in-laws for the awesome tickets- it was a great show and a great time with family!

My MIL and I sat beside Lauren Alaina's mom, had margaritas, and watched the soundchecks before the show.

If any of you listen to JOX Sports Radio- we met a local celebrity before the show. Here's a pic of Clint talking football with the one and only Pelham Gator. Despite being a little obnoxious, he seemed like a nice guy.

Between dancing our butts off and my phone dying, I didn't get a ton of photos.

{two} I finally rented the new Footloose! It was a pretty cute movie...but I have to say, Miles Teller was my favorite part. He plays Ren's best friend Willard and while his acting is pretty atrocious, I still thought he was adorable!

It was truly a family affair this weekend- my mom and stepdad also came to visit. We hung out all day Saturday and did a little shopping. Some of you probably know that I'm not much of a BBQ fan, but since my mom and husband love it- I obliged and agreed to try out Brother Zeke's. I was really impressed! Not only is the BBQ good, but they have a decent brew selection and WONDERFUL sides (namely fried green tomatoes!).

Mr. M wanted to see a matinee Sunday. My first choice was "What to Expect" (which I mentioned on the blog that I wanted to see when I first saw the preview forever ago), but his first choice was "Dark Shadows". Being the great wife that I am (and hoping that maybe one of my girlfriends will want to go see "What to Expect"- hint, hint), I let Mr. M have his pick. The movie was a little silly, but overall, I enjoyed it and it was a fun Sunday afternoon date.
