Happy New Year!

Well friends, 2012 is almost history. It has been a good year for the Ms; so much so that I almost hate to see it go.
This year brought our first anniversary, an amazing trip to San Francisco and the Napa Valley, multiple beach trips, more fun concerts, two trips to New York City, a new job for me, and more everday fun with Mr. M. This newlywed(ish) life suits us well, and the only part of letting 2012 go that isn't so bad, is the hope that 2013 will be just as fun!

I wish you all a safe and fun New Year's Eve and all the happiness in 2013!

Before I go- as much as I love the Christmas season, I hate seeing it end even more. The Miller High house is officially Christmas-free. So while I'm mourning the loss of all of my festive decor, here are a few around-the-house Christmas phone photos before it's the new year and Christmas 2012 is truly past tense.

rewind: cinco de may'all!

Hola amigos! The promised Cinco de Mayo post has finally arrived. Simply put, the motivation for this party all began as a way to trick my Mexican-food-loathing husband into indulging me in a night of southwestern goodies. While that alone would have made me happy, it was also another great excuse to do a little party-planning and spend an evening with friends!

Things kicked off with an awesome gift certificate to Shutterfly, where I basically got these Erin Condren Fiesta Invitations for next to nothing. Love Shutterfly!

Using my invitations as inspiration, I enlisted Candace to help with some printables: a banner, guest nametags, and food tents. She did a fabulous job, and Kinkos helped me bring her design to life.

My first project: Fiesta Flowers! I used this tutorial.

Next, I tackled some party flag banners. I used this tutorial and this tutorial.

I had a few wedding flashbacks as I spent some time browsing Etsy...until I stumbled upon these mustache straw-huggers. Amanda was a great seller to work with- check out her store.

Used some of my favorite wrapping paper as a table runner (idea from here). Strung up my "Fiesta" banner and since we still have no drapes in the dining room, I fashioned a cheapo tablecloth as a colorful window treament.

All guests had to use the nametags below to display their Spanish names for the evening.

The pinata was stuffed with some adult treats. It was a fun late-night-hit!

Our sweet guests were very gracious and kind, but since I seemed to get the most compliments on two particular dishes, I wanted to share those recipes.

::cHiCkEn eNcHiLaDa DiP::
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breats (cooked and seasoned with fajita seasoning, then shredded)
1 (8 ounce) package of cream cheese, softened
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Mexican blend cheese
1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles
1 jalapeno pepper finely diced (I added two because I like a little more spice)

In a medium bowl, combine shredded chicken, cream cheese, mayonnaise, shredded cheese, green chiles, and jalapeno pepper.
Transfer the chicken mixture to a medium baking dish.
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

::sPiCy cHiCkEn tOrTiLLa RoLL-uPs::
1.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cooked and seasoned with about a 1/2 tsp of cumin and 1 tsp of chili powder, then shredded)
1 can Ro-tel diced tomatoes, drained
12 ounce cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp garlic salt
6-8 large tortillas

In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, drained tomatoes, cheese, spices, and garlic. Mix until well blended. Add cooled chicken and stir together.
Lay out tortillas and divide mixture evenly in the center of each.
Spread into a thin layer leaving the edges clean.
Roll each tortilla tightly, but do not fold in the ends like a burrito.
Cut the rolls into 1" slices, discarding end pieces if needed.
Refrigerate until ready to serve.

miscellany monday

Hello again Monday! Did everyone have a great weekend? My weekend kicked off to a great start with lunch on Friday with some of my old Infinity co-workers. Six of us met at Urban Cookhouse at the Summit, and as always, it was fabulous to catch up with all of them!

Since the start of the work week is here yet again, you know what that means:

Link up with Carissa!

{founder's day}

Saturday I met up with Calley and headed to the Birmingham Country Club to celebrate my sorority's Founder's Day. We had a great luncheon and good program, and in honor of the event, I made sure to wear my favorite gold arrow necklace.

Saturday evening Candace hosted another great Pinterest Party! So after the luncheon, I headed to Hobby Lobby to gather up supplies for the party.

Next, I headed home to whip up a quick treat to take to the party.

Nutella Croissants
-2 cans of crescent rolls
-Nutella
-Cinnamon
-Sugar
-Powdered Sugar

1. Roll 1 teaspoon of Nutella into each crescent roll. As I rolled, I formed my "rolls" into more of an eggroll-type pocket so the Nutella would not ooze out in the oven.
2. Put a few tablespoons of cinnamon and sugar into a tupperware dish and shake to blend. Take rolled pockets and roll thoroughly in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
3. Place on baking sheet and bake according to cresent roll package instructions (around 12 minutes at 350 degrees).
4. Remove from oven and shift powdered sugar as desired on finished croissants.
Viola! Super easy and tasty treat!

As usual, we had a fun night enjoying girl-talk, snacking on various treats, and crafting. Here are some phone shots of some of the various crafts of the night:

Yarn-wrapped frame

Personalized tumblers

Clay bracelets

Hair ties

Yarn-wrapped wreath

I decided to make a moss-covered initial. I still had an old book and modge podge (from my previous Easter egg craft), so I decided to modge podge book and newspaper pages to create a background mat for my initial. Once dry, I assembled it all in a frame. See below for a few in action shots and one final product shot. Now I've got to figure out where to hang it!

You can see more Pinterest Party details here and here.

{sunday funday}

Christian Grey broke up with me y'all. Bittersweet start to the day- loved finishing the final book but truly hated to see our "relationship" come to an end.

The rest of the day was very relaxing and nice, though. I caved and agreed to a BBQ lunch at Legacy BBQ. I'm not much of a BBQ fan but Clint loves it, so I indulged him in trying out this new restaurant. It was pretty good- as far as BBQ goes, I suppose, and Clint seemed to enjoy it. We spent the rest of the afternoon kicking it outside with some of our favorite people. It's beginning to feel like summertime in Alabama! The combo of hot weather and yesterday's yummy pina colada have me craving a beach trip!

Nerd rope!

Pina colada!

Yeah, that's the number of Bama boys headed to the NFL after the final round of the draft. Roll Tide.

Have a fantastic Monday!
