oscar overload

In the interest of full disclosure, I must warn you that I watched ZERO red carpet coverage yesterday because I had another engagement during all of the Academy Awards festivities. Then I had to promptly hit the hay as soon as I got home last night in preparation for a 4:00 a.m. wake-up call. But of course, as soon as I got two free seconds in the airport this morning, I immediately had to look up pictures from fashion's biggest night. While my opinions are far from flawless even on a good day, I'm certain that after less than 4 hours of sleep, 2.5 cups of coffee, and a quick scan of some internet photographs, I'm not exactly going to bring my fashion A-game.

But for what it's worth, here are my favorite Oscar looks:

Viola Davis - she had me from the start with the emerald green. Gorgeous color.

Can this homewreckin' heffer ever look bad? I'm beginning to think not.

Penelope Cruz - so romantic and lady-like.

Michelle Williams - I'm usually not a fan of her looks, but this is the perfect balance of vintage and elegance. Plus I die for that color!

Milla Jovavich - simply stunning.

And no list is complete without a few fashion misses:

Jenny from the Block looks a little cheap and cheezy. I didn't care for this dress.

Melissa McCarthy - This is just a blah mess. A surprising let down for me. She usually makes much better choices.

Maya Rudolph - did she pick this up at the local David's Bridal? Because I swear I've seen this exact dress there.

Cameron Diaz- first of all, didn't this hairstyle go out in the mid 90's? She's getting a little old for the whole California beach babe look. Plus, I'm over the whole "naked dress" look. BORE-ring.

Sandra- another of my usual favorites. I'm not sure why I don't like this. It's just...awkward?

On the fence looks...

Emma Stone - Oh Emma, how I love you. While this dress isn't terrible, it seems to almost swallow her. Doesn't she look a little lost in all the fabric? Plus the big bow has been done- more than once. But I do love when people forego the basic neutrals and bring some color to the red carpet! She's definitely not a favorite for me this time, but I can't bring myself to call her a "miss" either.

Gwyneth Paltrow - fits her like a glove. Very simple, but also timeless. Perfect skin and make-up. I just can't decide what I think of the cape-look...

For the night's Fashion Grand prize- drum roll please.....

Claire Danes!!!

I fall in more and more in love with her fashion all the time. I'm sure some of you are thinking my sleep deprivation is to blame for this choice. And maybe you are right. But slight prom feel aside, I think she looks amazing. The hair, make-up, and jewels are perfection. And the pretty little cupcake dress- I think you either love it or hate it. And I luuuuuurve it!

Like I said earlier, I did not get to watch any of the actual red carpet or awards ceremony. Let's be honest- I wasn't THAT disappointed about it either. Instead I had a fun girls' night, and who really cares about who actually wins the awards? Aside from the red carpet fashion, my interest in the award show is very limited. I think I usually have seen on average 2 or 3 of the nominated movies each year. However, I did see a little Oscar snippet on the news at the airport this morning. Heard that a silent film won best picture- bleh. Exactly why I rarely watch. But I did see that Meryl Streep won for Leading Actress. Meryl is the queen. She can do no wrong in my book, and I loved her speech! Watch the hilariousness here.

Who were your favorites? Who did you find disappointing? I heard Borat dude dumped an urn of Bisquick on Ryan Seacrest- what was that all about??
